Frequently Asked Questions

Can I come to the seminar by myself or will I feel uncomfortable being alone?

Certainly, come by yourself if you'd like! About half of our attendees come alone. Many times it's because they aren't in a relationship. Sometimes is that their partner doesn't want to come. Other times it is that their partner isn't able to get away from work or family commitments. The Language of peace is a technique for speaking to people and for listening to what they say to you in a way that you can make sense of what they need. It doesn't require that they know how to express themselves to you. After this training, you'll be able to hear even the most aggressive language in a way that makes sense to you without offending you.

How long will it take to learn the Language of Peace?

You will be able to use the Language of Peace after your first two hours of instruction. Then, over time, you'll learn new distinctions, new vocabulary, and new constructs that will help you refine your use of the language.

Just like learning any language skill, the Language of Peace can take some months of practice before you begin to feel like it's 'natural' to you. Have you ever learned a second language? Do you remember the amount of practice you had to put into it before you had even the most rudimentary grasp of the language? Well, don't worry - the Language of Peace won't take that long to learn. We're using English, but we're using it in a way that is totally different than what most people are accustomed to. We're going to learn new vocabulary, learn a new choice for constructing what you say, and we're even going to learn a new 'way of being' as you express yourself.

Do both partners need to learn the Language of Peace for it to be useful?

No, not at all. It's even useful with people you meet on the street who are totally untrained in expressing themselves peacefully. The Language of peace is a technique for speaking to people and for listening to what they say to you in a way that you can make sense of what they need. It doesn't require that they know how to express themselves to you. After this training, you'll be able to hear even the most aggressive language in a way that makes sense to you without offending you.

Can children learn the Language of Peace?

Most definitely. In fact, children seem to have less difficulty in learning the process than adults do. This is because we are acquiring a second language when we learn the Language of Peace and so, just as children learn second languages easier and faster than post-pubescent adults, so too will they learn the Language of Peace faster and easier.
