"My husband finds he has so much more connection

"Thank you for last night's phone conference.
I enjoyed hearing about Kristen's using empathy for
her students. My husband finds he has so much more
connection with his inner city HS students since we
began using NVC.
This Language of Peace has given me such hope and
freedom to express with is in my heart and develop
compassionate communication at the same time.
For first timers, it takes time to 'get it' as we
are so programmed not to think , act, speak and/or
believe this way. While I find some people turn
completely off if the words feelings and needs are
used, I can now easily get around this with: I'm
sensing; I'm hearing' I'm getting that you.....; it
appears you.......; Could this be what is going
on.....?; Is there a chance that you.......; let me
see if I'm with you. you.......; Is it possible
that.....; What I guess I'm hearing is.....; etc.
even saying : sounds like it was a bumpy ride; you
are all fired up; out of control; locked
out....;connect with some people.
Also: I love....;thrive on....; I really enjoy....;
I value....; I want...; ....matters to me; .... makes
my life feel worthwhile...
And the phrase:" would you be wiling to spend
15 minutes with me talking about what may help you
come on time, etc.?"
Listening to you on the phone reminded me to go
back to MY needs; that anger in an increase energy
level to be heard without being judged and connect the
feeling to the need ( the need being 90%);
I really appreciated your using the strategy of
" this is the STORY I'm telling myself"
so true, we are such storytellers!! and Anger is a way
not to be honest , not connected with what is alive in
us.
I hope this meets your need for effective
evaluation. I so congratulate you on what you
are doing and wish you much success in your
work!"

"Families, schools, offices, etc. would all
benefit from hearing about this communication
process..."
""I had the privilege of hearing Paul
Sterling speak about Conflict Resolution and
Communication to West High School students. Though
there was limited time, students were given skills to
help them see and ask for the feelings and needs
behind conflict. Paul was great at taking real
scenarios that applied to these high school students
and showing them how communicating through his
techniques would lead to more effective results.
In addition, the teachers and adults in the classroom
were enthralled with the m at erial. I thought about
how valuable Paul's communic at ion techniques would
be in marriage and among families, where conflict
tends to be the most severe. I appreci at e Paul's
"Language of Peace" because it demonstrates
how to value other people in the midst of arguments.
It teaches you how to ask questions to get at the
real meaning and feeling behind emotions and words.
Families, schools, offices, etc. would all benefit
from hearing about this communication process."
